Cities are both real and imaginary places. Their physical realities are closely linked to an imaginary dimension, which is fed not least by their images. The exhibition »Unknown – Anonymous Views of Salzburg« is dedicated to those characteristics of photography that provide us with a seemingly concrete and at the same time blurred idea of historical reality. As part of the »Salzburg Museum – Guest Performance« cooperation, FOTOHOF is showing works by anonymous authors from the Salzburg Museum’s photo collection. Looking at Salzburg in the past, reflections on the strange role of photography as a medium of documentation, a substitute for memory and a much-disputed art form are initiated.
