The sixth edition of the exhibition series »Publishers as Guests« presents the Slovenian publishing house The Angry Bat. The publication program of publisher and photographer Matej Sitar has so far comprised around fourteen limited edition photo books, supplemented by high-quality editions. Starting with his own book projects, publication cooperations have subsequently been realized, for example »Heroes« by Finnish photographer Karoliina Paatos, a long-term documentary about the International Gay Rodeo Association in the USA, the conceptual photo book »Searching for the Old Bearded Fisherman« by Nina Weymann or the artistic approach to Tito’s state yacht »Galeb« by Matija Brumen. The photographer himself interprets the recently published book »The Abyss« by Matej Sitar as a response to current political events and an ambiguous feeling for the present time. For several years now, The Angry Bat has also presented the Maribor Photobook Award internationally, which focuses on new publications from south-eastern Europe and is selected by a four-member Slovenian-Austrian jury. In 2023, Patricia Morosan’s »(I) Remember Europe« (FOTOHOF>EDITION, vol. 334) was awarded the main prize. The submitted books will be exhibited at the UGM – The Maribor Art Gallery.
