Gallery Info

Since its foundation in 1981, FOTOHOF has been the centre for artistic photography in Salzburg, with diverse activities at home and abroad. In addition to the exhibitions in the gallery in Lehen, FOTOHOF’s program includes one of the most extensive photo-specific libraries in Austria, an internationally active photo book publishing house, an archive for historical and contemporary photography, international touring exhibitions, a wide range of educational offers with workshops and discourse events.

Exhibitions

The FOTOHOF shows about ten exhibitions a year in its gallery spaces. Depending on the respective exhibition situation, the FOTOHOF>STUDIO can be used as a separate, independent room. The neighbouring exhibition room of the FOTOHOF>BIBLIOTHEK is especially dedicated to the subject of photo books or photo book publications. In addition, national and international touring exhibitions (e.g. from the estate of Inge Morath) are part of  FOTOHOF’s extensive exhibition activities. The FOTOHOF team is responsible for the exhibition programme; the annual programme is determined cooperatively in regular meetings. In addition to prominent international artists, almost all important contemporary Austrian photographic artists have been shown in the past.

Cooperations

FOTOHOF constantly works in cooperation with other Austrian and international photo institutions. In recent years, joint exhibition projects have been realised with CFA Berlin, Gwinzegal, Fotogalerie Wien, Photomuseum Ireland, among others.
FOTOHOF repeatedly invites external curators to bring exhibition projects to Salzburg. In 2021/22, an open call to artists and the public presentation of works took place in cooperation with Frauennotruf Salzburg and GendUp as part of the “16 Days against Violence” under the title “[Art Defies Violence]”.
