Book Presentation »From Up in the Valley« in Vienna

Conversation between photo historian Christina Natlacen and artist Simon Baptist about the book Von oben im Tal. Simon Baptist – Archiv Franz Göttfried (From Above in the Valley: Simon Baptist – Franz Göttfried Archive), published by FOTOHOF>EDITION, Salzburg.

From above in the valley, farmer Franz Göttfried (1903–1980) began photographing the people of St. Lambrecht. Between the 1920s and early 1940s, he portrayed them on holidays, during their work, and in everyday situations.

The remarkable photographs survived on around 500 glass negatives in 9 x 12 cm format in the attic of his home in Upper Styria. Together with the FOTOHOF Archive, Simon Baptist is preserving this photographic legacy and is now expanding it into an independent archive.
