Leon Höllhumer’s garishly anarchistic works are usually created as part of performative happenings, richly equipped with elaborately crafted props, which are narratively located somewhere between screwball comedy and horror film. They fluidly combine elements of performance, photography, sculpture, film and storytelling to create a media mix that seems less committed to a straightforward narrative than to the creation of grotesque, artistic habitats. In these dystopian, carnivalesque fairytale worlds, figures borrowed from the art world and subculture meet fantastic chimeras, glazed ceramics become bizarre tools, prostheses and props for shows, which, depending on the concept, can grow into temporary stages and social sculptures.
