Opening: Open Territory

“Open Territory” shows seven documentary photographic positions that deal with different aspects of everyday life in the Czech Republic and Slovakia: public spaces, urban landscapes, subcultures, rural areas, vibrant nightlife and much more. While the works in this group exhibition consist primarily of observations and documentations of the world, their styles, perspectives and core can be attributed to the artistic tradition of magical realism. A tradition that was particularly alive in communist Czechoslovakia, and continues to inspire many to maintain a realistic approach in their observation of everyday life, while at the same time making a surreal juxtaposition of objects and people that blurs the line between reality and the imagination.
