Sonnenglas

Created in 1992, Dörte Eißfeldt’s four-part photographic work Sun Glass marks the beginning of her major series “Sonnen” (1992–2009), in which her distinctive experimental approach to shaping fragments of reality finds its original expression. Eißfeldt’s photographic oeuvre constitutes a continuous and significant contribution to German contemporary photography since the 1970s and has recently been recognized through major exhibitions and publications.

»Sun Glass« is an attempt, using analog photographic processes, to isolate the sun from its cosmic environment in order to examine it not merely as a natural phenomenon, but as a pictorial subject under specific exposures. The sun appears as the “void”—the point of transparency and clear vision through the glass.
