Understanding urban life as a continuous film, Engin Uzunkaya’s analog photographs can be seen as still frames. Divided into day and night, Uzunkaya depicts in color and black-and-white a portrait of the industrial city of Linz and its diverse society: sometimes harshly spotlighted, sometimes sensitively arranged, different social realities, generations, and communities are extracted from the flow of public urban space.

In addition to the self-determined, photographic exploration of the world, Uzunkaya places a strong emphasis on contact with people and their emotional expression in the respective moments of their lives: »Through my photographs, I try to be close to the events of life and also to discover them. I therefore also take photographs purely for personal reasons and have always been a little melancholy when someone asked me to photograph something specific.« (Uzunkaya).

This first publication thus brings together portraits, cityscapes and landscapes from the last seven years and provides an insight into the work of the young Austrian photographer.

Engin Uzunkaya, *1983 in Linz, Austria; lives and works in Linz.
