Volume 1: The building history in photographs
Volume 2: The building history in figures and data

Transforming the Kleines Festspielhaus into Haus für Mozart the architects Wilhelm Holzbauer, Francois Valentiny and Dieter Irresberger round off the overall urban development complex of Salzburg´s festival district. This project of significance for both Salzburg and the Salzburg Festival was completed over a three-year period of construction and inaugurated in 2006, on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the the birth of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

This two-part publication documents the high level of complexity involved in erecting a cultural venue of this importance within the sensitive environment of Salzburg´s city centre.

The photographers and artists Rainer Iglar, Michael Mauracher and Andrew Phelps photographed the building throughout its various stages from the start of construction work to its completion. The result goes far beyond the customary documentation of a construction site; it is to be seen as a photo-artistic project with regard to both the imagery and the concept of the book. The second part of the publication contains facts and figures about the construction project, complemented with photographs of the completed building.
