This catalogue is published on the occasion of a retrospective and provides, for the first time, a comprehensive insight into the photographic and video work of the Austrian media artist Eva Brunner-Szabo (1961-2012). Since 2016 her estate is housed in the Landessammlungen Niederösterreich (Collections of the province of Lower Austria). Her work focuses on the exploration of individual and collective memory spaces, which she handles not only in a historical and political sense, but also in relation to her own body. This manifested itself, on the one hand, in her work with private photographs she found, the sedimented memories of which the artist laid open in an interplay of fiction and factuality; and on the other hand in photo-actionist self-staging, in which she underlined the transitory moment by purposefully using a blur effect. The book contains a DVD with selected video works by the artist.
