Funafuti

 35,00

Sabine Jaehnke discovered photography as a means of personal expression through workshops and the one-year specialist class at Fotohof 2016/2017. Subsequently she creates first photographic works and photo books. Photography gave her the strength to continue her education despite a serious illness: in 2020 she graduated from the masterclass of the Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie in Berlin led by Ute Mahler and Ingo Taubhorn. The work on her final project was almost complete when Sabine Jaehnke passed away in February 2021; Funafuti, her masterpiece, is now being published posthumously.

Where can wanderlust be located? Is there even a place for longing, as the title Funafuti suggests? From the perspective of the elders, isn’t youth such a place too? Perhaps wanderlust and homesickness are also directly related. Homesick for home. And home is where childhood was. Equally inaccessible. Only inside of us. Both are interwoven in Funafuti. As homesickness for wanderlust. The dreams of the girl and the memory of these dreams at the end of life (Göran Gnaudschun).
