Melting Point (Continued)

 1,00

The presentation entitled Melting Point (Continued) curated by Martin Hochleitner for the Ursula Blickle Foundation showed the photographic works by Stéphane Couturier and gave an insight into the film projects he has been pursuing ever more keenly of late. Couturier has been a notable presence on the international exhibition scene since the mid-1990s with mostly large-format, brilliantly elaborated photographic tableaux, and is regarded as one of the main exponents of French contemporary photography. The architecture photographs—inspired in particular by the aesthetics of Le Corbusier—and his cityscapes are the result of a special image construction that uses the media properties and possibilities of photography and film to create transitory states between documentation and fiction. Couturier’s image-making provides the mainstay for a body of work which in both formal and iconographic terms can be pinpointed in the highly topical debates of an image-orientated artistic practice.
