Nikolaus Schletterer’s phenomenology deals with the perception of landscape, the virtual memory of places and their significance, and the small, seemingly insignificant things. In his archeology of “trite” gazes turned book he questions the structure of nature, the dynamics of tourism and the yearning business that goes with it. Schletterer presents landscapes with the utmost photographic precision. Using his imagery he finds a connecting structure for them independent of their geographic coordinates. His topographies are spaces of civilization which given the atmospheric touch acquire a magic quality.
