What he needed was an eye, light, time and a mental attitude of a strolling „flaneur”…

The Austrian photographer Paul Albert Leitner started in summer 1995 with his work “city of Vienna” as a work in progress.

During his long wanderings everything drifted past like a stage set and spread out in front of him: tell-tale house fronts, traces of people and their civilization, the logos of a city, enigmatic signs and messages on the walls, the inhospitality of urban and public spaces, plaster crumbling from desolate walls, the proverbial morbidity of Austria’s capital with its many traces of past eras.
