>19.07.–26.08.1989

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of photography. To mark this occasion in 1989, activities in the field of photography are being stepped up worldwide (and also in Austria).
As the Salzburg Centre for Photography, the FOTOHOF has organised this year’s programme in accordance with the anniversary year and has planned two major exhibitions for the summer – firstly, a takeover of a current show by the Frankfurter Kunstverein, “The Portrait in Contemporary Photography”, and secondly, its own production, “Collected Works. International Photographic Art of the 20th Century from Austrian Private Collections.”
Most of the artists assembled in the portrait exhibition have hardly ever been seen in Austria and never before in Salzburg – I would like to mention Clegg and Guttmann, Duane Michals and the recently deceased Robert Mapplethorpe as examples. The curator of the exhibition, Peter Weiermair, director of the Frankfurter Kunstverein, will speak about the works on show, which offer a representative overview of the work of many of the most important contemporary photographers. As in the past three years, we are not showing exhibitions of this scope in our venue in Linzergasse, but in cooperation with the Cultural Office of the City of Salzburg in the exhibition hall in the Zwerglgarten/Mirabellpark.
