Werner Kohn

In cooperation with the Institute of Psychology, FOTOHOF is showing works by Bamberg photographer Werner Kohn in the rooms of the Faculty of Natural Sciences.
Trained as a photographer, but working as a freelancer, Kohn sees himself as a »street photographer« and his photographs as an »archaeology of our civilization«.
In Salzburg, he is showing a large part of his traffic sign series, color photos of official regulatory signs that Kohn, a collector, has gathered over the years from all over the world. Taken together and freed from their functionality, these signs suddenly become images that can be perceived as (anonymous) works of art in their astonishing abbreviated way.
