Michael Ziegler works with the media of drawing, painting and photography: one of the conceptual approaches of his photographic work is the ongoing series, which emerges and is condensed over the years in diary-like artist’s books. This publication brings together excerpts from the period between 2007 and 2024 and translates the picture diaries into an independent monograph.
Ziegler’s photographic work focuses on doubling, multiplication, exposure and the integration of his own body into the photographic camera-subject-image constellation, which opens up a return to the original possibilities of photography: »The image as a light image, a sum of layered shadows. An immaterial image, a playing field for the imagination, a game with me, but also with the possibilities of photography.« Among other things, Ziegler questions the situational aspects of photography by consciously introducing chance: »The pictorial concept meets incalculable moments, and the subject of the picture grows beyond itself.«
