In her photographic technique Angelika Kampfer relies on proven methods. She works with a middle format camera and uses a tripod and artificial lighting. Kampfer is not only interested in documenting small details, but to transform the actual conditions of mountain farmers into a general statement. She does not portray the real world, but she constructs images which show the ambivalent world of mountain farmers between tradition and modernity, poverty and contentedness. The choice of backgrounds, small details like newspaper clippings, electrical appliances, landscape and views of their living space, show that the pictures are not meant to be romantic.
