 39,00

The publication, edited by Erich Wandaller and Werner Friepesz for the Salzburg Museum, has been published to accompany the exhibition »New Images. A New Epoch. History of Early Photography in Salzburg (1839–1877)«, which is a guest appearance of the Salzburg Museum at the Museum der Moderne Rupertinum from March 13 to October 19, 2025.

The publication spans the period from the beginnings of the new medium in the 1840s to its broad impact on society, culture, and everyday life in the 1870s. Thus, the project also encompasses a highly significant period in Salzburg’s history, the redefinition of the prince-archbishop’s residence as an urban space of civic culture.

In keeping with the title »New Images. A New Epoch.« This volume is dedicated to both aspects in front of and behind the camera, thus offering many new insights into photographic images and their creators. Through this project, which focuses on Salzburg, the Salzburg Museum is making a substantial contribution to the re-examination of early photography in Austria—also enriching the groundbreaking »History of Photography in Austria« from 1983.
