Since the early 1980s Michaela Moscouw has been producing photographic work as a radically obsessive expression of a personal emotional situation. Critical reactions to her work – especially her staged self-portraits – emphasize its feminist, sociological potential. Her repeated self-representation, running the gamut from exaggerated femininity to androgyny, foreshadows the theme of social normalization of sex roles. In this – almost sold out – catalogue from 1993 Moscouw appears as her own model in different roles.
