This commemorative publication is dedicated to Monika Faber on the occasion of her seventieth birthday and honors her extraordinary achievements in the field of photography. The history of photography, especially in Austria, but also beyond the country’s borders, has been and continues to be significantly influenced by the honoree: Through her research, initially mainly in contemporary and later predominantly in historical photography, her involvement in the development of a photographic infrastructure from the 1980s onwards, the active development of a collection policy for the design and expansion of federal collections and, last but not least, her inspiring educational activities and teaching, Monika Faber was able to advance research into photography in an unprecedented way.
