Extended Photography 3: Media Works

>22.05.–20.06.1986

In his cross-media works – he incorporates painting, photography and Xerox copying – Péter Forgács explores the conditions under which images are reproduced. A self-portrait is originally in color, the photocopies derived from it show different stages of a progressive reproduction process; the series comprises a total of around 100 pictures. Also on display are large-format oil paintings – continuations of the reproduction process in the medium of painting. Photographs serve as a starting point, which are both an assertion and a signal. The decay of the images operates like a musical and cinematic process; stopping is not accidental. The distance between photographs and paintings is only imaginary.
